Mother

If a mother didn't use her voice,
What would make you think,
Her daughter would have one?!

For if she was unable to speak,
Why would you think her daughter could?!

If she always had to watch her words,
Do you think her daughter could have any?!

Or does one,
Neglect to consider...
Without critical thought...

As though a child,
Isn't a sponge,
Absorbing it's environment,
Growing and learning,
What is,
Or isn't safe…

Fostered in an incubator,
Independent from the rules at play.
Where a mother used her voice,
A world where she was heard and seen
-herself.

For how else,
Could a daughter have a voice,
When a mother didn't have hers?!
